Our works at Tintagel House involved a two storey RC frame extension and complete external refurbishment the existing, 1960’s 12 storey commercial office building. Tintagel house is located on the Albert Embankment neighbouring the famous MI6 building and abutting the River Thames.

Tintagel House provides approximately 100,000 sqft of new serviced office accommodation for use by The Office Group.

Extensive enabling works on this scheme encompassed the further strip out of the existing toilet cores, the formation of five full height risers and the installation of extensive structural steel to the 11th floor to facilitate the lift shaft extensions and a roof (12th floor) terrace. Additional works included carbon fibre concrete strengthening to the existing frame, lift refurbishment, window refurbishment, and the cleaning of, and remedial repairs to, the stone and brick cladding.

The main extension works comprised the demolition of the existing two storey entrance, the removal of the existing façade at ground and first-floor level to facilitate the construction of a two storey reinforced concrete frame. The new shell extension is clad with brick and ceramic rainscreen, double height curtain walling and a green accessible roof terrace. External works included new hardscape full-length steps to the whole front facade and a new storm water head wall connection into the River Thames.

This scheme presented a number of specific challenges that we were able to manage and overcome, including the building’s location on a red route, and the adjacent construction of the Thames Tideway Tunnel during our programme of works.

The managing of relationships was key to the successful delivery of this scheme and, as such, we kept constant dialogue with key stakeholders, including TfL, the Port of London Authority, the Marine Management Organisation, the Highways Agency and the Environmental Agency.
