Building Futures at Dagenham

Oakmont are currently hosting a number of work experience students at their site in Dagenham.

The first pupil to join the site team was Ilhan, a year 11 student who has a keen interest in construction and engineering.

Oakmont met Ilham through a ‘Careers in Construction’ talk that was presented to approximately 300 pupils at the Eastbrook School in Dagenham, earlier in the year.

Ilhan spent a week on site to learn about what goes into the day to day running of a project, the design and drawings that bring the project to life, and the expenditures associated with a construction scheme. He spent time with various members of the Oakmont team throughout the week, who each gave him an opportunity to learn about what they do and how it helps to deliver the project.

The part of the week that Ilhan enjoyed the most was spending the day with the Engineer, walking around site assisting with problem solving and marking up drawings.

Simon Charlton, the Career Lead for Eastbrook, was incredibly grateful that Oakmont had presented this opportunity to his students and thanked the team for their time hosting Ilhan and teaching him about the construction industry.
