Parking Up at Basingstoke

Oakmont have been appointed to carry out the replacement of the of the existing 1970’s “car park one” with a new steel framed structure comprising of 229 spaces at the Festival Place shopping centre in Basingstoke. This is the second contract that Oakmont have secured at the site for AEW, following on from the successful completion of the initial Phases of St Johns Square re-imaging.

The existing car park spans the busy A3010 dual carriageway, and demolition works will be carried out down to the existing bridge deck above the road, concrete repairs will also be carried out to the bridge.

The new steel structure will be craned onto the bridge from the road beneath during the night and with road closures, ready to erect during the day with lightweight cranes. Finishes include a new stair core, lighting, surfaced and barriers. The envelope to the new car park, and also the adjacent car park 2, will be clad in 4,500 stainless steel plates to form a reactive ‘kinetic’ façade.
