Lighting up London

Oakmont were instrumental in the transformation of the iconic Piccadilly lights, and today we celebrated a job well done, and the unique opportunity we had to be part of London’s digital history, by coming together with all the team to enjoy the big switch on.

When the lights went out in January, Oakmont began construction of the plant room and track to accommodate the Building Maintenance Unit for the new screen.  The BMU is critical to ensure that the display can be regularly cleaned, maintained and repaired within hours without disrupting the function of the rest of the screen.

The lights have been switched off for most of 2017 so that the works could take place and the big switch on that took place today has been eagerly anticipated by the public. This iconic London landmark makes digital history as the screen, at nearly 800 square meters, is currently Europe’s largest 4K digital screen.
